Ben Frost VS Supernova

A while a go i found a shop selling ripped designs from artists like sixten. Because of this I consciously drop back in to make sure they dont sell any more dodgy shit. Today i went in and found a blatant rip from Ben Frost. You can see that “Supernova” ( the t-shirt label) have changed a little from Ben’s design but not that much. I have just sent Ben an email and am looking forward to his reply.

The funny thing is that with a few phone calls i found out that the guy that owns the shop also has his hand in the Supernova. Will keep you updated with what happens

  • Oh noes! His original characters!

  • A.M. Bush — Obviously the original piece was meant to parody the way brands take over people (or some other equally tired concept). No one is trying to say that Supernova is stealing his characters, der.

Who knows if Ben Frost got permission to use the characters, and even so the use of such is probably protected under some sort of parody law, but it’s clearly a rip of his piece.

  • That “original” design features a bunch of ripped off characters anyway, the central female being Gullivera, which you can see here:

  • wow some people are just so daft.
CLEARLY these are not Ben Frost’s characters.
it would take some pop culture knowledge to recognize some of them,
but *most people can tell its a parody.

    *ahem A.M. Bush, Phil.

    back on topic though,
it’s clearly not a stolen design.. they added the word FUCK and a rightside up pentagram.. that makes everything right…
    right?

  • Just to weigh in on the side of reason: there’s a difference between a ripoff (that shirt) and a satire or parody (the original artwork). You can parody a parody, but ripping it off is still stealing.

  • I’m afraid sarcasm and the internet don’t mix A.M.Bush.

  • I’ll say it again: these are troll posts- all of the top new posts are trolls baiting the readers.

If these aren’t removed, I’ll have to stop coming here. It’s a waste of time.

  • my two cents

obviously Ben Frost has used other peoples characters. but the general design and concept was the rip.

Tom> i think that troll posts are inevitable because it’s a site asking for opinions. But i agree they are a bit of a piss off. Also because the original design uses found images

    now back on topic people

  • the t-shirt looks rubbish.
sad thing is people might think i chose those fonts and pentagram etc.
if you look closely they’ve stuck a swastika on richie rich’s forehead.

    - can’t work out what the green text in the bottom left says?

will have some people rush the store this week and vomit on all their stock.

  • am i dumb?
    whats a troll post?

  • hay Ben
good to see you set the record strait. The green text says “Green Peace”. the cant remember what the green text next to micky says?

I fucking hate this shop. like i said in the original post its not the first time they have sold/made t-shirts the rip peoples designs.

    seek and destroy

  • maybe it says greenpenis.

  • Wow–that design makes a godawful shirt graphic. The layout, the crops…you’d think if they were gonna steal something this blatantly, they’d at least steal something that would look decent on a shirt.

  • G-

A troll post is essentially a fake post. Trolls say outrageous things in the hopes of getting everyone’s Irish up, and then they sit back and watch the melee for kicks.

  • Regardless of who stole what the artwork is lifted (Not design copied, I mean lifted) from Milo Manara’s comics, it’s instantly recognizable, so…

  • “remix culture”

  • well of coarse hello kitty and the monopoly aren’t ben frosts, but the way he has arranged them does belong to him…
whatever, dont really care, i just care that the t-shirt looks like crap compared to the artwork. i’d buy it if it was the same.
