Alive & Well rips 410BC and Dashboard Confessional tees

This shirt was released by 410BC.com over a year ago

Then this was released by Alive and Well just now (Alive and Well’s website is also very similar to 410bc)

This is a Dashboard Confessional tee (made a while ago)

This is a tee from Alive & Well’s latest release

And if you think that is coincidental, then check this out:

  • You’re right, in all cases they uses shapes, letters and numbers. Clearly a rip off.

  • alive & well definitely isn’t original

  • Sometimes I wonder: where is the line between ripoff and homage? Maybe they love DC so much they just wanted to pay tribute?

  • “Alive & Well” might not be the most original, but these are not legally problematic. There is not direct copy of actual assets; just a stylistic imitation. The bottom line is that if a design is good, it will be imitated. It’s not worth getting upset about.

Furthermore, neither 410BC nor Dashboard Confessional are going to be financially affected by Alive & Well’s designs; a person who wants a DC shirt is not going to be satisfied with a generic shirt of the same style. Yes, the style was probably a direct imitation, but not an actual copy. There are a whole lot of legitimate ripoffs in the world; these are not worth attention.

  • are we sure the ‘original’ designs are rip-offs to begin with? they just don’t seem all that original to me.i may be wrong, but i’m going with copy of an imitation.

  • That pyramid etching looks pretty identical. And everything else is uncomfortably similar as well.

  • There’s a big discussion about it on Emptees in which Alive & Well give their side of the story, the guy behind the brand does seem to be being open and honest about it. http://emptees.com/posts/159304-alive-well-recent-controversy

    FWIW whenever they’ve e-mailed me (I run a t-shirt blog) they’ve seemed legit.

  • James, WTF are you talking about? The original designer has every right to be upset about being ripped off for profit. You’ve got your priorities wrong here. Artwork is no big thing, it’s just vectors and pixels. What we get precious about are our ideas. And in this case, that’s what’s been ripped off.

  • wow you copied of 410bc, next time copy and paste something with a little more flare

  • At the end of the day printed t-shirts are for children and twats anyway.

  • The first designs of the pyramid look very similar. I would not be so sure about the second feather t-shirt. The biggest similarity in this design is the Since 2010 part. It is possible for a designer to use a feather and text on a t-shirt and for it to be similar. Im sure there is thousands of feather tshirts that have a vey similar design.
