Inspired at Home?!? More like Inspired at the Mall
If a designer is designing a gift line for a big gift company, you, the buying public, sort of expect them to come up with their own ideas and designs. So we were a bit alarmed to see this. We understand that there are probably no completely original ideas out there, and inspiration can come from lots of places. But a true artist takes that inspiration and makes their artwork or design their own. By “making it your own” that doesn’t mean copy it exactly and put the copyright symbol on it. As you’ll see below. . . .
First there was this blog post where the designer was talking seeing a fossil purse for the first time and loving the design, but not the size of the bag . . . they later spotted the designs at the mall . . . and made their own version of it. Notice the birds.
And then their version of the design.
So then we notice that the designer has introduced her own stamp of the bird. Gotta love the copyright symbol with the name of the stamp company.
And this weekend at the CHA show, one can learn how to make their own purse with the same Fossil birds.
Perhaps the gift company should change the name of their line from “Inspired at Home” to “Inspired at the Mall”
