Part 2:
Perfect fools originally contacted me to consult on a similar project, something I would have happily done. After a few weeks of silence I contacted them again (after this video came out) and they said the project took a new direction and they wouldn’t need me.
Now I see this on their website:

It’s a make your own paper head thing for converse.

All I want is a nod, an inspired by, whatever. To many companies are ripping off ideas from artists and not acknowledging them.
I’m a pretty open source guy and sharing idea’s is cool, but at least give a nod to the people you are borrowing from.

this was done a few weeks ago. every one at behance recommend me to publish it here.

Found this pic on a blog called 365 Concepts by Rupinder Singh.

Seems like a rip of this design by Glenn Jones from Glennz Tees

A quick google image search of “snake charmer” also turned up this picture by Major Drapkin & Co which Rupinder Singh used for his version.

This impressive cosplay of the character Kuchiki from the anime Bleach can be seen as one of those ads that pops up all over the place… you know the types… The original picture can be found on google using the tagline “bleach cosplay toothbrush” (And I HIGHLY recommend that fans of this particular anime should take a look themselves, while possibly temporarily disabling the adult filter.) I don’t have definitive proof that the owner wasn’t contacted and permission wasn’t gained, but I seriously doubt that the company went through the trouble of tracking the girl down for something like that.

It’s ironic when an idea is ripped off in a giant way. Publicity stunts are basically built to be recorded and displayed on YouTube, so even more people can experience the event.
Royal De Luxe is a French marionette street theater company that has been around since 1979. They’ve done some amazing work, and some is starting to appear in the U.S. without any credit. A beautiful stunt they did last fall was to commemorate the 20yr anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. A giant marionette girl and her uncle, a diver, were created with a story that came to life throughout that day.
Mayflower Moving company has done some new commercials that are appearing nationwide. You can check out their YouTube commercial to see all of the spots, but they use a giant marionette doll that’s eerily similar to the Berlin Reunion stunt Royal De Luxe did Oct. ‘09. Grey Advertising in NYC is behind the stunt and hired The Character Shop to help produce the 20ft doll.
I can’t imagine what it costs to build a doll like that, and then shoot the commercials. But if you’re going to spend that kinda $$$, why don’t you spend a little time creating a unique concept?
Also, JWT Sydney made a 9m doll for a TV commercial stunt in June ‘09, but the PR at least gives some reference to the “French puppet.”
Not saying big dolls are ownable, but the grace and beauty of the marionettes in the Berlin work is totally cheapened by the Mayflower stuff. It’s almost made creepy.

Chateau Marine Drive by Julene

Rip-off by Nelleke
this artist ( http://www.designedbynelleke.com/ ) seems to have ripped off papercut extraordinaire Julene Harrison ( http://madebyjulene.com/ ) and take full credit for her designs, going so far as to be published in a creative agency awards annual:
http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Creative-agency-awards-Welove-spread/410422
I wrote in to the Creative Agency Awards the following:
I do not know if it has been brought to your attention, but the papercut work from the ‘We Love’ agency by Nelleke is a direct knock off of the artist Julene Harrison, (madebyjulene.com) and should not be considered for a moment to be published for a ‘creative’ award.
This so-called “artist” has done nothing but poorly mimic a true artists technique and style, from the actual papercut, to the photograph including the scraps on the side, the knife shown, all the way down to the color of the wood this was placed on.
By showcasing and supporting this artist, you are completely discrediting yourself as a ‘creative’ agency, instead endorsing a full lack of artistic integrity and promoting theft within the artist community.
Since you have already published this, chances are you aren’t going to stop print and throw out every book made. but please consider making a statement against this kind of theft, and give Julene Harris the support she deserves.

Wow. Sometimes I think designers assume they can steal from smaller companies because – let’s be honest – who’s ever going to know, right? But when that small company gets bigger, suddenly a lot more people can see how you ripped them off. Check out these logos:

From L to R: Plan B Ad Agency, Blooming Color, and Plan B LLC in Dubai.
The first one was created over 10 years ago at an ad agency in Chicago, Plan B [the agency alternative]. The next one was “designed” years later by a suburban Chicago printing company called Blooming Color. And today I found a third Plan B logo that’s curiously similar to the first one for a company out of Dubai! I can definitely see how there would be different companies with a prominent “B” in their logo, but these treatments are just WAY too similar to be a coincidence. Don’t you think? Lower case b’s in nearly identical font styles slanting to the right inside the right half of an ellipse? I guess if you’re going to lift a logo it ought to be from a creative ad agency, right?
Check out Blooming Color’s website here or send them an email.
You can also see the ripoff logo for the Dubai agency here.
I spotted these fliers being handed out near where I work on Belfast, Northern Ireland. A cursory glance showed something was seriously amiss – their badger mascot is a shameless ripoff of Wisconsin’s own Bucky Badger! Yes we might be in the other side of the planet, but we still know who Bucky is.
The copy:
