the top image is by me, Verity Keniger, the bottom image is by Kelly Hyatt at Lagom for their Zootown range of cards. incidentally, this isn’t the first time they have made it onto YTWWN – http://youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com/blog3/?s=kelly+hyatt. I have been in contact with Kelly and he has denied copying my image in any way. I’ll let you decide…

I have written a more detailed account of the situation and Kelly Hyatt’s / Lagom’s contemtible behaviour on my blog – http://uhohdeer.blogspot.com/2010/08/grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrumble.html

29/08/10 – I have noticed the card has now been removed from sale.

This is one of the many smudger-repainters I’m gonna bring to light here.

And if it’s not clear here’s a animated GIF

and here I leave you with the typical response of a low moral ARGHtist on deviantart when you confront her/him/it with evidence:

If you check her page i’ll be you’ll find other stuff she has stolen from somewhere and getting all smudged on photoshop

What a shame…and I swear i know more, but gimme time to prepare!

This spring in Toronto, Hip Hop Karaoke put together this T-shirt design for their 3rd anniversary show with Chali 2na, printed less than a hundred shirts and that was that. This past weekend at Rock the Bells (kind of a hip hop woodstock) in New York City someone noticed our design, ripped and on sale at a merch booth! It’s a blatant bad live trace (why’d they leave the “3″ in there?) with some less than classy edits.

Jeanie M. is a fabulous artist in San Francisco, who has been doing original, wonderful works of art consisting of taxidermied mice en tableaux. She dresses them in tiny costumes, sets them up in anthropomorphic scenes.

Her website is here:  http://www.mouseangel.com/mice.htm

Enter the corporate pimps at Dreamworks and their whores, the Chiodo Brothers, who completely rip off Jeanie M’s. work with out so much as a tip of their hat. They just appropriated everything about her work. Did they even contact her? Probably not.

Not the first time the Chiodo Brothers ripped someone off for their work; they ruipped off the “Thunderbirds” TV show with their work on “Team America: World Police”.

Sad to see such intellectual theft. pathetic. I hope she sues Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks, and the Chiodo Brothers and wins big money.

I designed this qipao styled dress for Fan+Friend online shop’s design contest 2009. The idea of the contest is to design a lolita/aristocrat styled outfit and the winning outfit will be made as an actual piece to be sold at the F+F online store. I happened to win with this design:

The original design by Charlotta Tiuri (noke89):

This is the dress Fan+Friend made and it is now sold at their online store.

The original piece by Fan+Friend:

About one year later somebody noticed me in Deviantart, that they have seen something, that seems to be a rip off of my design. I got a link to chicstar.com and I found this:

The Rip Off by Daniela Valentini and chicstar:

Daniela Valentini had won a contest with this design in chicstar and the chicstar have now made the dress and they are also selling it on their site. I reported this in their site, but they refused to remove it.

The similarities:

I think anyone can tell the similarities between the designs and I think this “designer” have seen the dress that is sold on F+F site and ripped off the idea from it. The color options are exactly the same, the idea of the print is exactly the same (for me it doesn’t matter if it’s birds & flowers or just flowers) and the basic shape and the ruffles in the bottom are exactly the same.

The differences:

Fan+Friend did some changes to my original design as well. The ruffles on the back side, the corset lacing in the back and they also changed the print a little bit. Still it is my design. Daniela Valentini also did minimal changes, she added the buttons on the front and there are no ruffles on the back (just like in my original design) while in F+F version there are. I don’t think these little details really matter, the overview is just the same.

What is the design originally about:

The “designer” seemed to know nothing about the inspiration of this dress since she named the piece  ”Japan Inspired Lolita Dress” . As the original designer of this dress I know it is China inspired dress that’s got influence form the traditional Chinese dress qipao. The style is naturally lolita style, since the original design contest was a about lolita fashion. And lolita style comes from Japan so every lolita dress is basically  Japan inspired. The style of this dress in fact is qi-lolita (qipao+lolita). If you don’t know this much about these styles and you haven’t seen the F+F dress that I designed, then it is quite a coincidence that you have been able to pull out exact the same style of design.

This post is being made on behalf of Julia Pott.

An Illustration/Animation graduate from Kingston University 2007, she had great success with her film ‘My First Crush’ and has since gone on to develop a range of characters and designs with her unmistakable style.

However, just this week a girl called Maxine Carsboult was brought to our attention and it appears that she has not only used Julia’s work for her degree coursework but also many examples of students work from Kingston University. She has simply traced much of Julia’s work as you can see from the examples, only very small details are changed.

Maxine’s University has been contacted and efforts are now underway to ensure she pays the appropriate penalty for her outrageous plagiarism.

Examples below:

Some more, notice the cat design from Julia’s existing tattoo range currently on sale. Maxine has switched the angle, changed it a little and added a Santa hat. She’s also cut the arm off short where it normally held onto the original dog.

Next is Julia’s pillow print design featuring the big bear. Maxine has simply stolen, traced and re-coloured.

We found there was a Kingston University connection. This was a poster designed and drawn by a Kingston student for a local pub gig. Now look at the cat in the picture frame as part of the collection shown on Maxine’s website. You’ll also notice much of Julia’s work there too! (beach huts, animal party, the birds, bear etc.) We can only hope this wasn’t her degree show display, since it’s made up almost exclusively of other people’s work.

Copies of Irana Douer’s work, Irana’s are the first 2:

There are some subtle differences, they have been redrawn but the similarity is unmistakeable.

Here are some examples of Maxine stealing Amy Blackwell’s illustrations, again Amy’s are first:

Amy’s have been on sale on the internet for some time, Maxine has simply re-coloured the original.

Finally here is another one of Julia’s works, The Ocelot. Again Julia’s is first and the second picture shows Maxine holding the stolen image (claiming it as her own on her blog) this image was taken from the blog.

If you want to see more examples of Maxine’s theft, check out Julia’s site here : http://juliapott.blogspot.com/

Compare that to Maxine’s site here: http://cowgirlmax.blogspot.com/

Shameful…there’s no other word for it.

There are many more examples of theft on her various websites and we doubt that ANYTHING she has or is exhibiting is her own work. Has anyone actually seen her draw a picture?

…Friends of Julia…

It has also come to our attention that she has stolen the work of Gemma Corell, Amy Blackwell, Nan Lawson, Kate Wilson, Iran Douer and others who at the moment we cannot confirm as of writing.

STOP PRESS – as of the 13th July 2010 ALL examples of Maxine Carsboult’s stolen work has disappeared without trace from the internet.

Today we found out that an original illustration from my girlfriend seniorita polyester is being printed on wallets produced by an argentinian brand called Mundo Ilustrado. They didn’t just add the image without permision but they also alterated the color and did a little treatment to the design. The sad thing is that they claim to be designers but sell other peoples work without giving any credit.
We found out via facebook.

So, I’m sure everyone’s seen the Mortal Kombat (WARNING: NWS) concept teaser by now. At one point, the character Sub-Zero’s face appears on screen for a split second. It looks like this:

Someone noticed it looks suspiciously like some artwork done by a ZBrushCentral artist named – FoOD -. And by “looks suspiciously like,” I mean someone took one of his renders, mirrored it, and added a filter or two.

If you look at the last page of the thread, some people are asking the artist if it was a theft or if he was working with the creators, and he hasn’t responded yet (edit: He’s now responded and it is in fact used without permission). Thoughts?

Thanks to the Something Awful forum.

Today I was made aware of a designer named Hiromi Kiriki who created a futuristic concept watch for Sony and blatantly stole my work to go along with this, never requesting permission. He even edited out the ADL logo that was in the original. The original work is the cover for the 2008 Anti-Defamation League Annual Report which I was commissioned to design by the agency The Brownstein Group. Kiriki uploaded the design, to much press & traffic, to http://www.yankodesign.com/2010/05/25/in-2020-we-can-wear-sony-computers-on-our-wrist

Hiromi Kiriki’s watch concepts:

Amazing how the internet and Ctrl+C = creativity nowadays…very unfortunate, because the concepts are very cool. What would have been so hard about emailing me and asking for permission?
