I’m a big fan of Justice, and my girlfriend recently discovered something that rips them off blatantly. But first, a bit of background.

Coors Light is a pretty big brand in Puerto Rico, and has been so for a few years now. For some reason, people in this island love to drink the watered down crap that Coors dares call “light beer” (although, lately, they’re not #1 anymore, thankfully!). The brand is always trying to associate itself with the latest trends, and in PR, that means that now they’re all about the rock and roll. Some genius came up with the idea of organizing a big “indie” music festival and invite a couple of big-name latin rock artists to play with a few local bands, and then charge people a truckload for the entrance. They way things usually are around these parts, chances are the place was packed (the event was on the 24th of May).

What I hadn’t noticed, though (since I don’t watch a whole lot of TV, much less the local variety), was that the TV ad announcing the event completely ripped off Justice’s D.A.N.C.E. video. You can see the ad at their website. Unfortunately, I can’t link directly to the video, as their site is flash-based and requires you to enter your birthdate before letting you in. If you do want to see it, though, once you get in, click on “TV ADS” in the top menu and the ad will start immediately.

I finally found the Coors Light Ad in YouTube. You can watch it here.

Yup, looks like a winner (in a negative sense), SoMe will have to switch his name now to SueYou.
Coors Light sucks even more now.

    Another Justice ripoff over here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsJvbKoi-zs

It’s for one of the many companies owned by Carlos Slim, the richest man in Mexico (and 2nd richest in the world).

It doesn’t only rip of Justice, but the theme is a blatant ripoff of “Happy Together” by The Turtles.

Even if Justice were overrated (I like them tho), that’s no justification to being ripped off.

im gonna say this was a nod to the original. not a pass for an original piece by coors. That video is SO damn popular, its been viewed nearly a million times. The fact that the video is in black and white with only color shirts exemplifies this fact. It’s gotta be a ode to Justices’ video. Not a chance in hell they thought they’d get away with that one..

“Whoa whoa”, I have to disagree. This was an ad specifically for the Puerto Rican market (as it’s meant to promote an event held in Puerto Rico), and over here, not one percent of the population knows Justice or its video. And what would the point of a “nod to Justice” be in the context of an ad for an “indie rock music festival”? Had they included DANCE or any other Justice song in the ad, I’d accept the “nod” theory.

Add to that the fact that a whole lot (I’d say: most) advertising on this Island is a lame ripoff of something previously done in the US, UK or (particularly) South America, and the answer is clear: it’s a ripoff.

Even though Im puertorrican, and don’t know who tf Justice is, its pretty OBVIOUS Coors did this on purpose.

    Dude, its a rock festival.
Se estan tripiando un video famoso de rock.

Its obvious its a nod not a copy.
