You Will Soon…

One of my new favorite blogs at the moment is called ‘You will soon

Im sick of seeing blogs that just blow smoke up everyone’s ass saying how rad ‘Brand X’s’ next product is. There is way too many of those sites out there trying to hype the next cool thing, only ever being positive about products, never would they call someone out. I want to see some of these sites step-up and show the brands the power that they really have, show them that if they realese a range full of product that has just been ripped from last seasons best sellers from their competitors they should be critcized as doing so…

…anyway enough of my rant, my point is you will soon are not afriad to call it as they see it. It’s super skate nerd/sneaker freaker stuff if you are into that you will love it, the reason why I mention it here is that they often post up skate shoe knock offs. I know this happens all the time in the shoe industry but this post is one of my fav’s:

as taken from here: You will soon

————————–

By special request of Ian Rowley, here are all the shoes this season knocking off the Vans Era. Some of these come a little closer to a low top Chukka rip off rather than an Era rip off (don’t get me started on all the actual Chukka knock offs), and lots of them add a little toe piece, but I think they’re still going for the Era look with the shape, etc. So here they are:

The original:

The DC Pride, funny enough this is the first Era rip off that I remember, originally designed as the Anthony Van Engelen pro model. I’m stoked that he was so stoked on Eras that he was like “Oh another pro shoe coming up? Just knock of Vans Eras for me.” And then before the shoe even came out he just said “Ah fuck it, I’m gonna skate for Vans.” And then told them “Make me a thicker Vans Era.” Strangely enough lots of the Era knock offs just end up being knock offs of this shoe:

The Etnies Jameson:

The DVS Dayton:

The Emerica Heath Kirchart SDK:

The Supra Cali:

The Adio Kensington. More of a knock off of the brown/plaid colourway of the DC Pride, but an indirect knock off nonetheless:

The Globe Tribe:

The Vox Mono:

Oh wait, that last one’s a little more towards a Chukka rip off. How about the Vox Blender?:

And I’m even gonna throw in the Nike Zoom Harbor in here. It’s not really that close of a bite, but when you see it in the colourway with the contrast stiching, it’s a little more apparent what they were going for:

Seriously I swear to god there is some sort of secret meeting between all the skate shoe companies where they all decide:
“Okay, this year Vulcanized is coming back.”
“Purple colourways this season.”
“Hey, let’s all rip off the Vans Era!” and stuff like that. I mean invariably every season there is at least one style that’s in every line that looks the same. Like when everyone made this shoe.

And Ian, I know which Era knock offs you’re talking about. Cherokee, right? I almost got a pair from Zellers too.

Also to anyone thinking “Doesn’t this guy have anything better to do than sit around and post all day?” You would be right this time. It’s fucking cold and rainy and windy outside everyday here. New Zealand sucks my asshole raw right now.

YTWWN:But then it goes on with another post (originally from here)

————————–

So when I was doing the Era Knock Offs post, I totally blew it. I really tried to make sure I checked every company to see if they had an Era knock off, and I went through all the companies in my head and even made sure to check the websites for no-name companies like Dekline and Nice. (I was really surprised that Dekline didn’t have one.) But I forgot one company.

Osiris.

Good old Osiris, always good for a laugh. That company is shit. Although they do have a really good team now, and their last video Feed The Need was really good (Hey JonPaul, hope this isn’t too much ass kissing for you!), they’ll never recover from what they used to be. Never.

Anyway, obviously they do have some Era knock offs, so here they are.

The Diego Cleaver:

And the Duffel Corpse:

Oh, and of course they have a Chukka knock off too. The Keefer:

Good job Osiris!

good post, shows that vans have reached icon status.

note to sneaker nerds: collectible shoes and the blogs about them are fucking lame. this shit is for 11 year old girls! do you keep your ‘kicks’ on the same shelf as your MIB bratz collection?

Um… the reason it’s cold and rainy and windy outside here in New Zealand is because 1) Dude! it’s WINTER! and 2) Global warming cause by people making too many Era knockoffs.

All these shoes are shaped so that you can put feet inside them. Must be a rip.

Vulcanizing soles is just a cheaper manufacturing process. Companies used this process long before Vans came along.

A long time ago we all wore Vans or Chucks and blew through 5 pairs a year. Then more and more burly shoes came into vogue but lately a lot of kids don’t want to wear the same $120 shoes all summer and would rather blow through 4 pairs of cheaper shoes.

So the trends have come back around to where they were in the ’80s. No surprize there.
