An “artist” steals DVD cover for mass-market book
August 22nd, 2008 by Creatrix
A friend of mine blogged about this. One of our favourite sci-fi books has as its cover art the exact art used for Dennis Quaid’s movie “Enemy Mine”. Check it out. The movie was released in 1985; the book published in 1995.

its an archetype image practically. The face off pose. I say no rip-off.
You chose a terrible version of the DVD cover, the other one that shows up on google is far closer to the book, still… I still say no rip, it’s pretty standard and pretty damn old, even if they did copy I don’t think they would have benefited from it, it ain’t that flash at all! Kinda puts me off both the film and the book!
the face on the left is drawn identical to Dennis Quaid. Definitely used it as a reference I think.
of course it’s a rip. can’t you see that there’s a human on the left side in both? i mean, that’s pretty original, ground-breaking stuff. plus it’s about space or something!
LOL. It’s a total rip, but it’s hard to keep a straight face on this one.
Someone actually thought to themselves, ‘I need a rugged heroic guy for the front cover. Hmmmm George Clooney? Harrison Ford? Russell Crowe? wait I got it! DENNIS QUAID!’
1) it’s a total rip: that is Dennis Quaid
2) it’s cheesy: the faces are exact copies.
If by “the same” you mean “only vaguely similar.”
The chin, nose and brow are completely different. The facial expression is the same, vaguely.
I don’t think I’ve seen an actual rip on this site in over a year. You people need to RELAX.
I really enjoy these posts about current rips. Its not like this is from 13 years ago. Oh wait.
Oh, come on. This is a commonly-used design. Any time there is a face-off or showdown between two people or groups, this sort of image inevitably shows up.
This is especially true of sports. Replace the faces with football helmets and you’ve got a standard ad for just about every Superbowl ever. This has been used with ads for PPV boxing matches. This has been used for any event which features a major rivalry.
Magazines have used this archetype on their covers for ages. Got two politicians that are in heavy competition? Show them face-to-face in profile.
Not a rip, guys. Try again.
As usual, Herr Stotch nailed this one on the head. Best rip ever.
The RIP part isn’t that there are two faces. The RIP is that both faces on the cover of the book are obviously Dennis Quaid’s face from Enemy Mine. Look at the brow on the left and then the lower part of the face on the right. Even the hair is mirrored.
I swear I think this blog is primarily read by blind folks.
rek, i think your right. they are just commenting on the design not the fact that it IS Dennis Quaid’s face.
You people who can’t tell that it’s Dennis Quaid’s face are complete twits. Does the fact that he’s unshaven on the left side really fool you that much?
Check out the right side then. I bet if you photo-shopped the photo from the poster over that even the dumbest among you would have to admit there’s a resemblance.
two figures facing each other with a starry night in the background is hardly original in the first place. no rip off.
two dennis quaids facing each other with a starry night in the background is highly original in the first place. yo rip off.
Lesner Brydge, you are a twit.
It actually amazes me people can’t see that both faces on the book cover are direct tracings/reference from the movie cover. I mean, you *really* can’t see that?
Total rip
The noses are different and Dennis Quaid’s forehead slopes back more.
Have you even seen the Transformers movie posters?
