The hip-hop producer Timbaland stole a six year old song from a Finnish musician and used it for the song “Do it” by Nelly Furtado, as well as an “original” ringtone.

This link shows the history of the original song, and how it was blantantly copied:

This link shows parts of both songs, and then plays them together at the same time, which fit absolutely perfectly:

Music is an artform, and musicians can take inspiration from others. However, Timbaland’s work does not even attempt to hide that he took the music from another piece, but uses the exact same version. I strongly recommend looking at the links. They explain it better than I can.

I think it is a blantant copy and I am just sad that the original owners of the music are too lazy to put up a fight. If no one fights for what they own then it is open to being stolen.

Ahem. The owners of the music are not too lazy to put up a fight: they’re currently talking to lawyers… and as the chap who put the wind up Zombie Nation six years ago for their C64 rip (which was eventually licenced), I’m giving them a hand.

That’s the deal with most hiphop songs.. and other gengre’s. Most songs now-a-day were already in a top40 a few decades ago.
Though this one is really easy sampled, most peeps take the time to at least cut it up.

This is a great opportunity for the original creators to sell the rights of their original song to an ad campaign for someone else.

“It looks as though Timbaland’s sampling woes have hit a snag again. Saregama, one of India’s largest recording companies, is suing Timbaland, Danja, Universal, Aftermath, G-Unit, Czar Entertainment (no not our Czar), Timbaland’s Virginia Beach Music and The Game’s Black Wall Street imprint for an undisclosed amount. The issue is over Lata Mangeshkar & Mohammad Rafi’s “Bagon Mein Bhar” sample that was used by Tim and Danja for The Game’s 4th single “Put You On The Game” from his album The Documentary.

Saregama claims the song violated copyrights owned by the company, which owns 50% of all music ever recorded in India. Saregama should sound familiar as they also sued Dr Dre and DJ Quik over the sample used in the Truth Hurt’s smash hit “Addictive”

-The name of tempest’s track is actually acidjazzed evening
-The track is a mod not a midi, search the internet for more info on the file formats if you’re interested
-It wasn’t made on an “oldass Casio”, but a PC or an Amiga or something else running a tracker
-He does have the copyrights for his composition, he would even if he had made it a “wack ass midi song”
-It wasn’t actually the original acidjazzed evening that was sampled, but a SID (another music file format) cover of it made by Glenn Rune Gallefoss
-Timbaland did not “put his twist” on the parts he stole: they were directly sampled except for the bassline which was changed a little

More information can be found easily by searching

    Timbaland is pathetic.

Timbalands raps are weak, and now he goes off and samples everyone else since he isn’t creative enough to make his own beats 100% of the time.

He doesn’t even bother to change it at all.

  17. 80 + 64 + 4 = 0…

For whatever it is worth I have today started lobbying within the Swedish Pirate Party and in the Swedish blogosphere for acknowledging this scandalous behaviour of Timbaland in regards to Gallefoss. Hopefully it will cause some turmoil and some bad …..
