milkshopgang.com strikes again…

After seeing the blatant rips of another designer by milkshopgang.com, I decided to head on over and see what’s up.
I was unsurprised to discover that the very first tee in their Men’s section is an (at least to me) obvious rip of one of my favorite design firms’ 10th anniversary tees.
Staple Design handles several high-profile clients, as well as an in-house line of tees/cut-and-sew garments.
For comparison’s sake:
I do see how it’s not a 100% steal: cleverly, milkshopgang put a cityscape (from what source?…) in the lower half of the X, but it’s still fairly egregious.
I dropped jeffstaple, the owner/founder of Staple, a line via his blog; hopefully his legal department can reach out and touch “Australia’s fresh design talent” (rolling my eyes at that one).

that new element is actually central to their version of the design and says something completely different. what did they steal exactly, the roman numeral X as an hourglass? if so, consider it a remix because it has been “artistically interpreted” into something new.
but yeah that first milkshopgang rip you mention is a 100% straight rip
I got to say there are similarities because it isn’t a steal. I say this because the X hour glass has been done in drawing it in elementary school alot of people would do that. This is from my memory. It looks as though they look similar but aren’t a steal. If it is the fact I used Vs for an hour glass in a Guest for Pixel Pandemonium since it uses an hourglass. This is an argument that I don’t think can be won though I agree there are similarities but because of the hourglass is a pretty open use item it can’t be won in a court of law. This is just my opinion, though I could be wrong here.
Though the hourglass is nearly identical in size and shape I wouldn’t even think that one inspired the other, let alone copied them. Both designers probably wanted to do a simple hourglass and went with the same stock find. the hourglass itself may even be a public domain icon useable by anyone.
I’m not sure where the photo came from. The skyline shown is Auckland, New Zealand,
they also rip off mishka with the one eyed smiley
