    Maybe they’re…. selling them.

  2. on 11 Oct 2009 at 2:43 am Panya

Ditto. They’re obviously selling R.E.Load Bags. It’s not like they took the labels off and made them into Target bags. Target does sell other brands.

I mean, really, why post this…?

  3. on 11 Oct 2009 at 2:52 am Mary

They are selling the R.E.Load bags, they obviously just transcribed the brand name as “Reload”. Come on.

  4. on 11 Oct 2009 at 3:39 am sam

Target isn’t selling the bags of the brand R.E. Load (as they’re not made in slave shops in China).

Target is using the name in order to trick the parents of kids who want to be trendy into buying the one at target in stead of the expensive bags.

not sold on this, the company is actually ‘R.E. Load’, not ‘reload’, it’s splitting hairs but they named their own company. plus the product is not even the same style as the R.E. Load bags, so who is really being tricked?

sam- don’t be naive & think that an american company w/ american made products doesn’t still exploit it’s employees, i mean these are $100-200 bags we’re talking about & minimum wage in most states barely covers the cost of living.

This post is really confusing because it’s showing two identical pics of the copied bags and none of the original.

I’m on the fence; the Target bag doesn’t look anything like the original R.E.LOAD style bags, the logo’s don’t look that similar to me either. So it’s just the similar name, which isn’t such an original name if you want to make up a brand name for a set of tough looking bags.
Maybe it is, maybe it’s not coincidence, but I (not from the US) don’t know how popular and well known R.E.LOAD is in the US that Target thinks it might sell more bags with this name.

OIC — I thought the top pic was of the original bag. That is confusing.

In that case, I do see how the Target bags could possibly be misleading. But the styles are completely different.

I’d never heard of R.E.LOAD before this post, but I’ve seen those Reload bags at Target for quite some time now.

Target is most certainly not selling R.E.Load bags. R.E.Load is a super small company based out of Philly that makes great handcrafted bags and accessories catering mostly to the cycling community for over 10 years. Those logos are very similar and while it may not have been intentional, it’s definitely too similar not to be suspicious…

um if they’re not selling the bags someone should tell colorado stores. I saw the bags there just the other day.

there was a few backpacks made by eastpak called the “reload” back in 1996. using the word reload and associating it with a loadable backpack is far from stealing. the logo is a little familiar, but not theft.

besides the demographic that caters to the R.E.Load company, certainly differs vastly from the demographic that purcashes doublestrap backpacks for their children from Target stores.

    @michelle-
reread my comment- I said target was most certainly not selling R.E.Load bags, not RELOAD bags. That should be evidence enough right there of some infringement IMO…

Reload bags (R.E.Load if you want to be picky) are all handmade in philly. target has not contracted them out to make bags for them to sell in their stores. they don’t even make backpack styles like the one pictured. target is definitely in the wrong for this.

    Dudes

This is the same image– note the wrinkles in the side mesh!
    1. Did the Target website designer “pick up” an incorrect image?

    2. Could it be the US bagmaker is marketing a special, cheaper bag through Target? It’s not an unusual practice to have a special East-Asian Sweatshop-made SKU for mass consumption.

  14. on 16 Oct 2009 at 5:48 pm Efmac

The bags aren’t similar, the logo’s not similar. Could be a trademark issue on the name if it’s registered. Nothing interesting.

  15. on 16 Oct 2009 at 7:13 pm Rita

Target has nothing to gain by “ripping off” R.E. Load.

They are not stealing the design, as the designs aren’t really similar.

So, are they selling them under the same brand name in hopes people will see said name (Reload) and confused it with “R.E. Load” and purchases the bag? If it’s a small company based out of Philly then I doubt THAT many people in the Target demographic have even heard of it.

Let’s imagine for a moment that 3% of ALL the people that shop at Target have heard of R.E. Load. And maybe ALL 3% of those people buy Target really gained? There is just not a very good risk/reward ratio for Target.

    Worst post ever.

    No pic of ‘inspiration’ FAIL

2 identical pics of ‘rip’ FAIL

Not to mention that the ‘rip’ is merely using the word ‘Reload’, not a design that’s copied from, or even similar to those from your overpriced, poncy little bike-bag company.

R.E. Load does not have copyright over the word ‘Reload’. I’ve got an old Eastpak Reload-branded bag, and one from a UK supermarket’s own brand that says ‘ReLoad’.

Yaaaaaawn. This is a bad post and you should feel bad.

Original R.E.Load logo is on their website, not sure how that got lost in my original submission:

R.E.Load posted on facebook that they’re taking action:

The logos are quite similar, imho.

  18. on 18 Oct 2009 at 2:43 am jet

Ok, this is annoying, URLs get deleted from posts.

    original logo is at http://www.reloadbags.com

  19. on 22 Oct 2009 at 5:53 am Steph

Because they couldn’t POSSIBLY be the same item? XDD

  20. on 22 Oct 2009 at 2:54 pm drew

If R.E.Load is trying to file against Target I can tell you right now they’re wasting their limited finances. There’s no way that would pass for any sort of copyright infringement. Especially against the Target brand.

R.E. Load Bags has ripped off everyone under the sun. Just take a look at their site. Warhol, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Velvet Underground and on and on… Remember this one from a few months ago? http://freakbeatfuzz.blogspot.com/2009/07/dont-buy-these-bags.html They were stealing the iconic designs from skateboarding heavyweights such as Neil Blender, Jim Phillips, V.C. Johnson, etc and putting them on $300+ messenger bags. Karma is a bitch.

  22. on 30 Oct 2009 at 1:03 pm stebain

The logos are about as unsimilar as can be, other than the particular letters.
This one is a total crock.
