The California Institute of Abnormalities rips of The New Orleans Burlesque Fest

It’s pretty obvious that The California Institute of Abnormalities (CIA) just photoshopped over and stretched the original beautiful poster for the New Orleans Burlesque Fest.

Hmmmm…. This is clearly in bad taste (not the burlesque – the unreferenced use of the NOBF’s poster), but is it “infringement” or is it “parody?” If the event were held in N.O., I’d say parody since many people would get the reference, but since it’s in Los Angeles, I’m not so sure.
I do know that if it were my original art poster and permission had not been obtained, I’d be mighty cheesed off.
Seems to me that when you talk about parody, that there is the assumption that the viewer somehow is aware of the original (as you bring up KS).
This seems like a blatant copy/paste/chop with no reference to the original other than a defacing. Not to mention the horrible non constrained proportions on the dancer in an effort to crowbar in some ugly type and low rez gifs.
Weak
you mean to tell me that is the best they could do for their art work. Nobody had a friend of a friend who could hook them up with some art for their fest. Total rip off and a bad one at that.
Ick. Goodness, why didn’t they just use a Dita Von Teese photo and put a big clown face on it? I’m *sure* no one would notice.
Has anyone clued them in to their error? Or notified Mr. Delaup?
I notified him about this when I found it, it’s all taken care of
this is not only just ripping off, its downright insulting to the original artwork.
Watch out when you park near this place, your car will get broken in to. shady north hollywood.
