Keith Schofield Blatantly rips Hundley and Others
November 28th, 2009 by merkley???
first the video:
Charlotte Gainsbourg feat. Beck – Heaven Can Wait
now the images from William Hundley’s Flickr:

now Hundley’s Flickr post after i emailed him the link to the video:

not only did Keith Schofield rip Hundley, but the whole video is rips of other works from fffound.com. Who needs to come up with new ideas when you can just use flickr or fffound?

Looks like he’s given credit to Hundley where credit is due:

Maybe he thought we would notice?
Yes possibly only after the noise generated. But even so, good to see it is acknowledged.
Utilizing other artists’ imagery, and believing mere attribution is sufficient, won’t cut it. Nope. Especially since videos are a commercial product to promote the musician and his/her music. Kinda sad, because I suspect the musicians knew nothing of the appropriation, and now they’re being raked over the coals too. Boo.
So, they thought they could nick stuff off some guy on the internet, but the internet came back and bit them on the ass! Hah! Extra funny, considering that is most likely the medium through which most of us will see this video.
And now, we’ll hear all the speeches about nothing being original and blah blah blah! That is a flawed justification written by guilt trippers, that is: a lie. It’s just cheating and theft, and you will always lose if you deal with these people.
Ha ha! I’ll bet the director is a little embarrassed now. Good.
So much better, isn’t it, to do your own work?
i saw keith schofield speak at a design conference, where he showed us a folder on his laptop where he keeps lots of these sorts fffound pictures/images off the internet, and then the clip. he fully acknowledged that the whole point of the clip was to have a sort of random slideshow of crazy unrelated scenes… you know what this article explains it better: http://www.boardsmag.com/community/blogs/behindthescenes/index.php?p=619
it seems like a blatant rip without credit at first, but as he said, everybody’s seen at least a good half of those images on the net before, so people would recognise the clip is made up of all internet images.
i should add, it’s still a blatant rip (and a little lazy), but i echo Blake’s sentiments – i think he used the concept because he wanted people to notice.
Nah not buying that either. I haven’t seen any of those works before.
I just read Keith’s own letter of explanation about this, and his definition of “found photos”. So great of him to set down rules which only he knows (artist, non-artist, internet = a free thrift shop??). Gee, thanks.
I’ve been the target of a band of cheats like this, and I’ve seen the justifications. All lame excuses.
I’ll repeat what I’ve been saying: don’t upload your work to the internet without a watermark. Apparently, you need to make the point that it is WORK. But before this you should seriously question what you will achieve by putting your work online *at all*.
the director is an asshole!
