From here.

“Its hard to think that people at Passion Pictures did not have this early panoramic of ours in mind when they created this new spot for the SONY Bravia line.

To add insult to injury, someone from Passion Pictures contacted us about a year ago asking to see samples of our work (including this panoramic) as they were interested in working with us. We sent them samples and then heard nothing from them ever again.”

It’s about time someone posted an actual ripoff on this site!

    Pretty blatant!

    Ouch! Definite rip.

It certainly does appear stolen (and it being from Sony only help to confirm that); but you can sue someone for using the same concept or colorful bunnies in the street?

Wow, that makes me really sad for Kozyndan

  8. on 08 Oct 2007 at 7:37 pm SeattleDave

Is it possible KozynDan was actually paid for this? I mean people ’sell out’ all the time. It wouldn’t suprise me.

  9. on 08 Oct 2007 at 10:56 pm Boothy

SeattleDave did you read the article? The quote I posted was written by Dan himself.

  10. on 09 Oct 2007 at 12:37 pm lizzelizzel

Being paid for the work would not be selling out! Sorry, just had to say that.

I’m a bit pissed at Juxtapoz.com . I’m not saying it’s their job to tattle on others for ripoffs, but they posted an article basically patting this company on the back, and when some people commented on the Kozyndan comparison, they deleted those comments!
Geeze, I miss Ert. They used to be open to discussions like this!

Crap, I take that back, sorry Juxt!

  12. on 09 Oct 2007 at 10:59 pm SeattleDave

Oh yeah, my mistake. Good find.

Like kozyndan didnt rip off the hokusai print? What goes around comes around.

  14. on 10 Oct 2007 at 10:50 pm beartastic

kozyndan have come out and said that the rabbit wave image is directly from the Hokusai print, they never claimed that the whole thing was an original idea. They gave credit where credit was due.

  15. on 11 Oct 2007 at 12:37 am Boothy

Jigsaw, that is what’s called a ‘Homage’.

When an ad agency asks to see work from an artist, then steals the idea without paying them to make a commercial, it’s theft.

  16. on 11 Oct 2007 at 2:44 am Jigsaw

Their version is not an homage. An homage is creating something that is inspired by something else. Not taking the exact same image and adding rabbits.

  18. on 14 Oct 2007 at 8:35 pm here

oh jigsaw. ripoff= pretending something is your own and denying the origin of the idea. homage= presenting a work with the influence openly represented. oh wait. why am i even bothering to respond?

  19. on 17 Oct 2007 at 8:22 pm fuckem

fuck em. Dan is a fat little spoilt bitch anyway, he deserves it.

Is there no recourse, legally, for this kind of thing. Did you not register your designs in Washington? I know a good NY expert on the subject.

Jigsaw, your stupidity knows no bounds

  22. on 20 Jan 2008 at 4:34 pm jian-designer

im afraid u cant sue them for stealing a style or idea from u :( i have written a blog about copyright infringement before and i have paper loads of info.
but u can do something about the copy they requested off u and how they come to make u feel vulnerable.
    please do something about it.

companies that rip off stuff from the real people who come up with the real ideas should be under the radar more closely.

    take care
