MUNK ONE ripped off in Portland

So I was in portland this weekend and my daughter wanted to go into one of those girls accessory shops at the mall and I just happened to notice a small coin purse that had a  bad rip off of a skull design I did in 2001. I understand that skulls with something sticking out of their heads is not new but I drew this by hand and took liberties with the proportions so that it had my personal style at the time.  I don’t know who “DRZ” is but they need to stop biting.  Below on the left is my original design for a local California band in 2001, on the right is the coin purse rip off I found in Oregon.

    indeed a rip, they seemed to have just dumbed it down and made it B&W instead of greyscale…. at least a cease and disist????

    Talk about dumbed down…

    They’re both borrowing heavily from The Exploited’s old t-shirt design. By old, I mean that it predates MUNK ONE’s work by 20 years.

    Saw a wallet or coin purse like that at a girly Asian store in SoCal this weekend. Don’t remember the drz, only looked at it briefly because it seemed so out of place.

    Wow, even the lines are the same, it’s just the bag has removed a few… “dumbed it down” to repeat the words of those before me.

    i dont see they are borrowing from the exploited logo. its completely different in many ways, just that its a skull punk which isnt a huge feat of imagination, surely?

    WOW, that sucks. At first I didn’t think it was a rip (a skull with nails for a mohawk seems like something more than one person could dream up). THEN I looked more closely, and it’s not the mohawk that is so apparently ripped… it’s the facial expression. I feel for you, that really sucks.

    But good job drawing the original, it’s far better than the rip.
