NutrientWater has been taking too many Vitamins
March 2nd, 2008 by jron
Now that we have got the hilarious pun out of the way.
I’m sure some of you in Melbourne (im not sure if it is interstate) have seen NutrientWater, made locally in Victoria.

And here is a company just bought by Coke, “The acquisition of Glaceau, whose bottled drinks include Vitaminwater, Fruitwater and Energywater, will give Coca-Cola about 30 per cent of the US market in the rapidly expanding category.” Vitaminwater just recently been available to Australians over the last few months.

I’m unsure of what will happen, but with Coke just spending 5b on VitaminWater, probably something drastic.
[edit:] NutrientWater is a relatively new company, and Vitaminwater has been around in the US since 1996.

It’s worth mentioning that VitaminWater has apparently existed since 1996. I’m having a hard time figuring out when NutrientWater came into existence, but it’s quite possible that NW is a ripoff of VW and not the other way around.
I think Ben is right.
In fact that’s whta I first thought of this post, that you were pointing out how NW copied VW.
It doesn’t matter who started the company first internationally. What matters is NutrientWater is an independent, Australian owned company that has established the entire vitamin enhanced, flavoured water market in Australia. Coke could have launched Vitaminwater internationally anywhere- UK, Japan, next door in Canada, but they chose to come all the way over to Australia- how convenient since the underdogs- nutrientwater set the whole market up for them.
Also just so you know, I’ve checked out Vitaminwater and it is not akin to NutrientWater. It has sucrose in it- which is essentially white sugar making it dirty, not as natural as they claim and cheaper to make. Whereas NW is only made from fructose, a more expensive, better for you sugar. Isn’t it interesting then, that VitaminWater is more expensive for consumers than NW even though it is 500mL versus the NW 575.
Coke Amatil thought we wouldn’t notice THAT.
I would always support local companies over US conglomerates anyway but I recently tried Coke’s imposter having been a NutrientWater addict for ages. No surprise it’s sickly sweet and tastes artificial… perhaps that suits the American palate but then so do big waistlines. NutrientWater for me any day!
I guess i wasnt very clear, i am saying that NW has copied VW. at first i thought it was a big cat like coke copying, but it turned out the other way. doesnt really fuss me its still a nice drink, i just hope coke doesnt drive them into the ground.
jane thanks for the info, thats nice to know.
i dont agree that this is a rip.
NW ripps VW?
Ok you say they made better ingredients in NW, whooopeedoo! (i’ll taste it!) but does that give them a right to bite the VW design and feel!? hellnooo!!!
I agree that one design is directly inspired by the other, but I don’t think they’re close enough for anybody to get sued.
Do you think it’s a coincidence that store-brand macaroni and cheese is sold in a blue box exactly the same shape as the Kraft version? Of course not. Is Kraft going to do anything about it? No.
Just for info’s sake, NW is interstate; we have it here in QLD.
well thats different, grocery stores, target, cvs, walgreens, etc. whatever all do that, but they are considered to be more “BOBO” brands so the consumer can save money…and thats ok i guess…but if NW wants to be a for real competitor to VW, then why not bite their design!?…haha tell me about it.

I no idea they were seperate brands–I assumed that NW had branched out LOL
If you look at history, Powerade (coke) is a copy of Gatorade and Nestea (coke) is a copy of Lipton Ice Tea. Maybe coke should come up with their own ideas as well
I don’t mind if NW ripped the design off a little bit and made enhanced water products before Glaceau could hit Australian market, but to imitate their whole attitude is just wrong and looks cheap and unimaginative (notice the similarities in names and text that tries to sound ‘hip’ under it), which is why I wouldn’t bother buying NW over VW…its easy to copy someone’s idea (Mr. Bikoff – owner of Glaceau, coke shouldn’t get all the credit just cause they’re extending distribution channels, etc.) but its hard to make it as far as Glaceau did on their own – convincing Coke that they are worthy of approx 5 billion.
For the record NW doesn’t taste that bad and has more variety…hopefully we’ll get all the flavours in Aus soon.
Jane: Sugar cane isn’t natural? That’s news to me…
Vitamin water says it has acai in it, which in fact only has acai favoring, where as Nutrient water has both acai (50mg) and goji (50mg) thats why I choose Nutrient water.
There is much mis-information posted.
Fructose is dearer than sucrose! Wrong. Fructose is cheaper and sweeter than sucrose so manufacturers use less per gram of sweetness. That’s why so much fructose is used. Fructose is better than sucrose? Who says? Where’s the evidence? Excess amounts of any of them are bad for your health. They are natural because they are in honey and fruit? So what? Placed into lolly water, its still lolly water, it will make you fat and rot your teeth. What’s wrong with plain old H 2 O? The rest of the crap they throw in is a marketing hoax.
Could some one post the ingredient list of the two VitaminWater`s
or copy a link to see…
