Mexican director Pablo Davila is systematically plagiarizing other people’s work.

In Mexico –as anywhere else, I guess- is very common that “creative people” with somewhat of a visual culture, manage to fool unknowing record company execs and management offices into believing that they come up with original-breakthrough ideas to add to their artists’ careers, sometimes even fooling artists as well; which is not the case with the band Motel since Rodrigo Davila (vocals/guitar) is Pablo’s brother.
First, watch Pablo Davila rip-off Battles’ “Tonto” and compare it to Motel’s “Y Te Vas”
Then, watch The Horrors’ “She is the New Thing” and Motel’s “1, 2, 3”

It’s almost comical that both rip-offs came a few months after the original videos were released. I can’t wait to hear if this qualifies as “inspired”.

Hey, I agree with the battles video (plus it’s a co-direction with humberto hinojosa I think), but come on ! the horrors one is not a rip off, in any case it would be more similar to aha’s take on me I think…He’s done some other really cool videos… check out chikita violenta’s war or los dynamite frenzy …

Me pregunto si al putito de Pablo Davila le dara verguenza que el mismo Tyondai Braxton, guitarrista de Battles, se muestre indignado por este plagio (segundo comentario a este post). Espero con ansia el proximo video de este plagiador serial, mi apuesta es que se fusilara algo del genial Nima Nourizadeh.

La verdad estos videos son sorprendentemente parecidos, qué vergüenza que los ostenten como ideas originales, pero en todo caso me parece justo que la crítica vaya para el video y no para la música porque en eso sí me parece muy buena esta banda, que con Panda no tiene nada que ver.
Y si nos vamos a los efectos de luces podemos ver un antecedente incipiente ya desde el arte del disco Evolución de un grupito de pop Mercurio (2000) y el video Dile de Lynda (1998).
