Since I left Burton, I can actually comment on this now. This was a total rip-off. Everything on our site was designed and developed 100% in-house. no outside agencies, no templates, just a lot of hard work and late nights… They ripped this off. Burton has no ‘Moto’ anything, this was just someone on their end “thinking we wouldn’t notice”…

As someone who works in web design, it is very likely that they had the same person design their site, also a lot of websites have the same templates.

you guys are aware that there are templates for websites, they both bought the same template and voila, they look alike. I’ve seen tons of websites that look just like this

Isn’t Moto part of Burton anyway, I’ve only ever seen Moto in Burton stores, I always though it was their fashion label.

This is a total rip. Using it as inspiration is one thing, but they stole the layout down to the pixel. I think the biggest problem is that they stole the Art Direction. Colors, Image style, feel, etc.

I disagree with Stephen. That’s a rip off all right. Look at the search bar and the “Go” button, the fonts, the circular graphics on the hero banner and even the red cart icon in the upper right.

I can see how they ripped off the layout, but the pics and logos are totally different. It sucks, but I’m not sure if copying a layout is really that big an issue.
