Christopher Hewitt / Peach Creative

christoperhewitt.com seems to have inspired peachcreative.com.au
A couple of badly covered tracks - the email address link still points to Christopher Hewitt and the tag/filter (All / Commercial etc) from the original is still in the source, but commented out.
Doesn't really need any more explanation! Via QBN.

Seems like the rip-off site is down now.
BTW that’s an awesome design.

this is the first time I’ve seen this website & I’m kind of confused. Is it just for posting things that look similar, or actual violations of other people’s copyrights & trademarks? ‘Cause while they look similar (would be hard to believe one didn’t see the other’s, although there’s no reason I should just take your word for it on whose was done first) there’s nothing about that “design” that’s eligible for copyright protection. other people are allowed to type using the same commercial fonts.
the only real question is why someone would even bother to copy something so awful.

I think its obvious that Peach Creative stole Christophers site, why the fuck do you think they took it down in such a rush?
People just don’t learn…

Wow, you… used a large Helvetica font and different colors for the section headings, and made year icons that look like Apple’s. Way to buck trends, there.
I mean, it sucks they stole your code, but try to be original maybe?

The design is impressive, it goes over most peoples heads though.

I agree, this design has been very well thought out — a homage to the use of colour and beautiful Helvetica.

this is definitely a rip in spirit even if it just a simple type treatment
i think i can remember the original being up years ago
im confused as to how something is considered to be impressive design if it goes over people’s heads
i think its a nice layout, but theres not enough leading or differentiation to make the navigation altogether immediately identifiable.. frustrates my eyes

The least peach creative could have done was change the font, have different year icons, change the section headings, and change the position of the associates link. It still would have been uninspired, but it wouldn’t come off as such a thoughtless hack job. Clearly they really thought no one would notice.

the greatness of the design doesn’t show properly until you use the website. It’s pretty cool. I think the navigation is pretty obvious/easy. I think the people who are meant to look at it (design professionals) will appreciate the design & layout.

All I can say is that I wouldn’t let either one design anything for me. Both are such crap.

A complete copy it seems. What’s the real copyright deal with websites anyway? How much of the design can be yours?
I think most webdesigners have initially learnt html by copying other sites first and using them as templates.
