Newbreed girl continue their mission to rip off eveything
I wandered into Topshop in the UK with my girlfriend the other day and saw t-shirt i recognised from Threadless.com:

TBH i think its strange that Topshop are selling them as we don't really have milk and cookies together over here...

I don’t know if that should be counted as a ripoff — I’ve seen variations on that theme (both visually, and in songs, cheesy poems (“we go together like cookies and milk”), etc.) for as long as I can remember… if it were actually copying the design, rather than using a concept of “hey, milk and cookies go well together — what if they dated?”, maybe. Next someone will show a fork and spoon in love, and someone will say it’s a rip-off of mother goose….

Maybe if someone could show that someone came up with the idea, that no one else had ever thought of it before, etc., but good luck with that one! Way back in college (1990s), I just recalled, there was a logo like that for our “milk and cookies” weekly evening get-together — holding hands and all that, that is.

My partner used to work for a supplier to Topshop, who’d routinely request copies of other designer’s work, but at stupidly low knock down prices. So it’s likely it’s known that this is a direct copy, but then so much fashion is these days.

So ideas are now copyrighted, and once you think of a cutesy idea for a poorly-executed t-shirt design, nobody else can ever do anything similar ever again? There are a lot of genuine copyright infringements on this site, and those people have a right to be outraged, but there are also a lot of people whining on this site who seriously need to die in a fire.
