Pental GB to promote their new pens created this Youtube video on their channel on promoted on their site.

Their video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5bREaqfbMk The Pentel Rip

Is a direct copy of Paper Parkour by Serehne Teh  http://www.sereneteh.com/

I know that people can be inspired by such work but a direct copy is not acceptable.

  1. how exactly is this a “direct copy” and not “inspired by”?

  2. After following the links and looking at both, it seems like this was done by the same artist. There are some for Disney XD as well http://vimeo.com/19265817
To me at least it looks as if the same artist was hired to do the same thing for their product.

  3. That would be interesting if that was true. And who ever did this, the style and idea are stolen but those are not copyrighted, so Pentell didn’t do anything legally wrong anyway.

  4. If this is your standard for a rip then every artist in the world is guilty…

  5. “If this is your standard for a rip then every artist in the world is guilty…”

If this isn’t all by the same artist, its a sad rip indeed.

And no, not every artist in the world is guilty of this kind of lameness. Fortunately there are still plenty of creative artists about, who don’t need to copy other peoples ideas directly, but it seems you’re less and less likely to find them in supposed “creative” industries.

  6. Its not by the same artist. He does do commissions but this wasn’t one. It was copied by an advertising agency that tried to seed it on my blog.

When I asked about it they admitted they used the original video to sell the concept to the client before making their own version without contacting the artist.

Legally wrong? Probably not, morally – yes.

  7. @Shadoboxxer it LOOKS like the same artist but it was just a copy.

They used the orignal and copied the concept and style.
